  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Work as an IT analyst, predominantly using Citrix technology. Working with customers to provide solutions that allow third parties with connectivity to the network for their work. Also work on managing documentation for the service. A project I am currently working on is moving an application used in manufacturing from Windows Server 2008 to Windows Server 2016 as part of a migration project.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes. I developed my interpersonal skills, I am able to create relationships faster and be more personable with people. I have also developed my communication skills, hence I am able to relay my message to people in a clear manner. I have also developed my technical skills, I have developed a strong understanding of various technologies.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am thoroughly enjoying the programme. I have had a lot of good experiences and gained a lot of new skills. I have receive a lot of support when required and I am stretched at a good level, so I can develop my skills without feeling overwhelmed.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is well structured. Clear targets are set for what must be achieved at each stage. The expectation is that 5 per cent of the diploma must be completed each month. A meeting is arranged with the tutor to discuss progress each month. We are also expected to work on Open University modules during this time.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Support is provided whenever required. Whenever I am struggling, I can have discussions with my line manager to see what can be done to improve my situation. A monthly meeting is also arranged to discuss any outstanding issues or topics that need to be discussed as an apprenticeship group. We are also provided mentors who we can reach out to for support.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Support is provided for the diploma. However, not a lot of support is provided for the OU modules.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • The programme is fantastic and allows you to develop a large number of skills. If help is required, it is provided at any stage of the programme. If you need to be stretched, there are opportunities available to help boost your skills. Although it is an IT apprenticeship, you will gain both technical and management-related skills.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to GSK?
  • Ensure to sell yourself in the application form. Let them know that you are capable by trying to stand out from the crowd. Also, show the company that you understand what the company does and what their mission is. Try to highlight that in your application and show the value and benefit you can bring to the company in their journey towards their goal.
