  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a senior creative designer at AO. I oversee the design work across the marketing function of the business including any offsite and onsite advertising. My job includes the concepting and creation of campaign creative, overseeing and signing off work from the more junior members of the team, ensuring brand consistency at all times.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes. Im currently undertaking the management leaders apprenticeship which has taught me alot of different methods on how to manage my team, skills such as conflict management, different learning styles, coaching, organisation, budgeting and planning and team building. I use them daily with my team and have seen a much higher confidence in myself and from my team in me.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The programme is really fun and engaging, we have had a residency at the brathay trust house in the lake district which was such a valuable experience. I learnt alot about myself professionally as well as personally and really bonded with my colleagues and tutors to form friendships and really make the most of the course.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The work is structured well around my full time job. It is organised in sections and structured to ensure we are hitting each of the modules and really gaining an indepth knowledge of each subject matter. The timings are always clear and our targets are always clearly laid out to us.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer have really been supportive of the programme, allowing me to work 1 day a week on the course and given me the opportunity to do extra work on top of my role so that I can get the management experience I need in order to complete the modules in the course.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

Our tutor [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] is always available on the phone if you need him and he understands the nature of undertaking a course like this ontop of a 9-5 job so he's always really supportive and helpful. You can tell he really wants us to do well and his encouragement is really motivating.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Like a lot of people my role naturally formed into a management role. A lot of roles at some point become management roles and i really had no prior experience before this course. Now my confidence has really improved I feel like I have the knowledge from this course which reassures me that I'm doing my job in an efficient way.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • AO is great for social activities, there are always events happening around the company, discounted tickets and social stuff happening team and company wide. AO also get involved in industry specific events and hold talks and conferences with inspiring leaders and industry specialists so there's always something social and something inspiring happening around the business!

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • AO is a great place if you want to achieve great things at a fast pace. The company is fast moving and always working to improve so there are always opportunities to get stuck in and make your mark. There are lots of perks to the job and the atmosphere is really energetic and fun.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to AO?
  • Be open minded. The business moves fast so don't come in expecting a dull office job. It's a fun, energetic place and hard work really pays off. Although it's grown in size it still feels like a very intimate business, we're all working to try and make a success of AO, so being a team player is a must!
