Taking handover. Assisting patients with personal care and feeding. Doing observations and A-E assessments, and documenting this. Doing skin assessments and documenting. Doing care rounds. Assisting rehab patients with needs and communicating with MDT.
Developed skills in communication to patients, especially with dementia patients. Proper documentation. NEWS score and observations. Administering medication while shadowing nurses.
I enjoy working and learning on the ward. Sometimes there isn’t time to shadow nurses and my job is more HCA instead of developing skills as an NA. This is due to staffing but the ward is supportive/makes effort.
Communication between the trust and the university isn’t always organised.
Very supportive on the ward and with the practice educator. Sometimes there isn’t time or staff to support with learning on the ward.

The trust is organised and very supportive of new staff, students, and apprentices. My practice educator is very supportive and approachable.
If an apprenticeship, take control of your own learning and the trust will support you as you go along.
