  • I am a Trainee Piping Designer at Amec Foster Wheeler. My daily tasks include back drafting, modelling in PDMS, issuing documents, and creating drawings in AutoCAD.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Since starting my apprenticeship I have developed my AutoCAD skills and I have received PDMS training. Within my first month I had the opportunity to attend both a AutoCAD and PDMS course. Within the next year I will also attend course at college in order to complete my apprenticeship.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy my job and would recommend the programme to anyone that has an interest in a piping design career. I have received training and plenty of support from colleagues and my mentor.

  • I feel very valued within my team.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is well organised, I have received training in order to carry out my daily tasks. I will also attend college courses to develop my skills and to gain an appreciation of the Oil and Gas industry. During the programme you are assigned a buddy and a mentor to help you throughout your training.

  • So far during my apprenticeship I have not attended any of the training/college courses.

  • I have received plenty of support from my employer, all staff are friendly and approachable with any problems/questions I may have.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • The salary package meets all my costs and is very generous.

  • There are plenty of opportunities to take part in outside of work, there is a social committee which organises events for all trainees/graduates to attend.

  • Yes

  • I would recommend Amec Foster Wheeler to a friend as I have received plenty of training and really enjoy my job.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Amec Foster Wheeler?
  • During the application process you have to be patient, the application forms normally are live from January and you have to wait until March/April before you hear back if you have been successful. If you have been invited to an assessment day you have to make sure you are a team player but can also work well individually.
