  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work on the technical support help desk speaking to customers and advising them on products. I also fault find with customers on all drives products and PLCs. This can be something such as continuous motion such as a pump all the way to discontinuous motion control such as a pick and place machine.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • My role is very technical and has a very steep learning curve. My technical ability in drives and automation systems has developed extensive. Also being able to speak to engineers out in the field and support them has developed my confidence and ability to convey information. My software skills have also been developed by using TIA portal on a daily basis.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The programme is very well structured and has a brilliant way to tailor apprentices into the area they are looking at going into. I have been very technically minded and very interested in being in a technical role. A sit down with my manager allowed the tailoring of my placements to suit the businesses and my needs.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • As previously mentioned the structure is great. We rotate around the business getting a feel for how the business works. It has the ability to tailor to the needs of the apprentice as well as keeping it fair to other apprentices. We have regular meetings to discuss current topics and ensuring everyone is ok.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Throughout the apprenticeship I have had support from my learning provider when ever it has been needed. Advice ad guidance has been provided and given when required. Regular meetings and catch ups are also in place to ensure we are moving forward and achieving our targets. I have finished my NVQ and just finishing off my degree.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualification has made me aware of certain procedures that need to be followed. It has helped identify how to go about working for a large company and the best way to communicate to people and how to work best with them. The fault finding and practical assessments have also be fitted into the role I am currently in.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes there are multiple social activities that can be attended for mind and physical wellbeing. There are also events such as the big bang that allow engineers of all level to congregate and network at an event. The physical activities range massively to suit the needs of all of the employees.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Siemens to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Siemens is a great company that provide a lot of care and attention to each employee. Each employee is valued and looked after. They care about where you're ambitions are pointing towards and how they can fit into the business requirements. The pay is also competitive with the benefits that come with the company.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Siemens?
  • Someone coming into the business would want to ensure that they establish where they want to go. Thinking about what role is best suited is very important and is over looked by other people. People just go through he scheme and just fall into a job. Seeking the correct path that suits you is a great way to a positive career.
