  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Booking in case management meetings such as disciplinaries, welfare meetings. I have a lot of new team leaders that have recently been promoted so some of my day is coaching them how to conduct the meetings, with role play and scenarios. During busy periods i can average on approximately 7/8 meetings a day. I have regular catch ups with the Assistant Warehouse Manager and my Shift Managers to ensure they have all they need, giving advice on employee management where possible. I have many departments that i am the Advisor for so being efficient is something you have to be during my job, i have a caseload tracker which is reviewed and updated daily and is reviewed once a week with the warehouse manager. On occasion as an Advisor we get given projects normally policy updates to ensure that the company is in line with ACAS and Direct Gov.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • During the course of doing my CIPD i have learnt to write more concisely both as an advisor and in general. I have been working on my coaching skills to help aid in my job more efficiently off my own back. In my role i have gained more technical experience in my role which helps me daily.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am enjoying my course (except the maths side i don't enjoy maths any day of the week) i just get a bit frustrated with myself when i get referrals on my assignments, i don't think i have passed one yet without a referral. My company and my peers have all been really supportive of my during the course. Doing a full time job (which requires additional efforts on occasion) having a 2 year old and trying to do assignments can be quite challenging.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • When i started the course, as i joined a class half way through i didn't feel that i was fully inducted. I started my course in April 2019 and when a new class year hit in September i then felt i got my induction. My college assessor has changed 3 times since i started the apprenticeship, one of them was without notification. My new college assessor [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] has been really supportive we have a really good relationship. My tutor has been supportive with my studies.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I do receive a lot of support towards help with CIPD, i feel that my maths though is lacking. I am one of those people who maths does not come easy too despite my consistent efforts.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • if i pass my CIPD, it supports my company as they can say they have me as a level 5 advisor. I haven't put all my theory into practice and in some situations working for AO i don't think i will such as redundancy and shared services. I have learnt bits from the qualification but I am a kinesthetic learner, so i learn more in the doing as opposed to writing assignments.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes, AO recently took part in hosting the CIPD event. I took part and was in attendance liaising with all participants. There are social activities that the company hosts such as summer events, Christmas parties. When i am not working i have a 2 year old son who keeps me busy, i love spending time with him.
