  • 1. Please give an overview of what your work experience involved:
  • Work experience gave me a really good insight to the type work that I would be doing if I were to be offered a place on the EY School Leavers apprenticeship programme. During the week I completed assessments to demonstrate that I would be a good candidate for the apprenticeship.

  • 2. What training and skills development did you learn from your work experience?
  • One of the tasks I completed to develop my skills was a research task and presentation in front of a senior EY partner; helping me develop my research and presentation skills. I also developed my self-confidence when presenting my findings to somebody who had a lot more experience than me.

  • 3. To what extent did you enjoy your work experience?
  • I was well looked after at all times by a buddy. At lunch times I sat with the team and my partner on the business academy. It was a pleasure eating lunch overlooking an amazing view of Liverpool from the top floor! I was even treated to a lunch.

  • 4. How well organised was your work experience?
  • Each day consisted of well organised sessions. Some were virtual and others were practical. I was given plenty of time to prepare for assessment tasks and my day was always busy. I was given assessment and real work to complete and I felt part of the team.

  • 5. How much did you learn about the company culture and what it would be like to work there?
  • While at EY I was able to sample the company culture. I liked how the office was very small and had a relaxed quiet atmosphere. The working environment was great, everybody had their own desk space and the layout allowed you to ask one of the friendly team for assistance.

  • 6. How much did your work experience help you in deciding on your future career path?
  • After completing my week at EY I am confident that this is the right career path for me as an alternative to university because there are so more benefits such as a salary, no debt, a career head start, on the job experience and a social life.

  • 7. Were you paid or reimbursed for this experience?
  • I was paid a fair wage for the week, which was the hourly minimum pay for an 18 year old. Each day was 7 hours long and an hour was allocated for lunch. Getting paid to learn and be assessed was a bonus!

  • 8. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees?
  • There were plenty of networking opportunities. I was greeted by everybody in the office and able to build a network of my colleagues using Linkedin. I felt that networking was a large part of EY’s culture and is a huge contributor to why the company is so successful

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • EY looks like a great company to work for and from talking to other employees and my from my own experience while I was there, they look after their employees very well. EY also has many opportunities all across the globe due to how vast and successful the company is.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
  • Before applying for EY I would recommend completing their online quiz about whether or not you would fit with their culture and also their job segment quiz which will help identify the best role. I completed both of these online quizzes and found them very useful.
