  • My day to day role as a civil engineer includes: - Setting out of engineering details - Quality and technical assurance - Site HS&E - People management - Management of contractors - Problem solving

  • Developed my complex problem solving ability and aptitude of dealing with high intensity situations. I've learnt how to manage people and develop their skill and understanding of engineering aspects.

  • The programme is very challenging and pressurises yourself to break down and teach yourself how to undertake difficult and puzzling situations.

  • The programme suits me well as its very personalised and enables each person rely on self motivation and reliance to complete works and tasks on time and to the best of your ability.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer is very supportive. Especially those on my projects, they understand how difficult undertaking a degree is even more so my route of undertaking one alongside a full time career. The company provides me with time during the week to attend university alongside gaining invaluable industry experience.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The training provider has some fantastic staff who are very helpful and have great industry experience which they an reference when teaching subjects.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The background knowledge I've gained so far during my degree has propelled my understanding of civil engineering and how/why things are designed/built the way they are. This has directly improved my performance in my role.

  • Each project has a multitude of extra-curricular activities, some examples of these are: - Football matches, squash, cycling, etc - Nights out/meals in local towns/cities - Professional development activites - ICE events, etc

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Costain is a very professional and friendly place to work, the support the company provides across work and personal life is fantastic. The company also produce the some of the most complex civil engineering project in the country.

  • Show your desire and enthusiasm to work hard and improve yourself and company.
