  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Trainee Electrical Designer. I work alongside electrical engineers and designers, producing design deliverables using AutoCAD. These include schematic diagrams, single line diagrams, cable schedules, cable routing layouts. These all require to be completed within set timescales to ensure the project runs efficiently and on time.

  • I thoroughly enjoy the trainee programme. Learning 'on the job' has been very beneficial to develop my skills. I've been on various training courses and had a site visit in the short time I've been here. I'm also being enrolled in college to gain an accredited qualification.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is well organised and structured, and the support given is great. We each have designated buddies and mentors to help with our development. The only criticism would be the time it's taken to be enrolled in college, as I'm aware that other companies with similar programmes were enrolled about 3 months before us.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • The company has a large graduate and trainee community which always has charity/volunteering/social events on the go. It's a great way to meet people from other offices you otherwise wouldn't meet. On a project level there are social events every so often, and more formal events like townhalls to keep us updated with the company's performance etc.
