  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role is to work within the analytical science team, supporting purification and analysis of newly synthesised chemical compounds. I currently work in reverse-phase purification and in further years will move onto mass spectrometry and NMR analysis.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Everything I do in my job is a new skill I have learnt. I have learnt how to use many new types of software including masslynx and more recently spectrus DB. I can also use RP-HPLC instruments and HRMS instruments for purification and accurate mass analysis.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy my job and it is very rewarding. Support is always available when needed.

  • Clearly structured with goals clear that need to be met.

  • As much support as I need / is appropriate

  • 1 day a week paid for study at home. Colleagues happy to answer any questions that I may raise.

  • Qualification is interesting and broad although not particularly specific to the job that I do. However, it covers a good base knowledge.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes and they are always available. There is a wide variety of talks/seminars/optional training courses available along with social/sporting events. There is the opportunity to attend networking events when they arise.

  • Yes
