  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am an applications developer apprentice within Accenture and I work with our client - a large UK bank in their payments area to build and test banking applications. So I use programming knowledge which i have picked up from uni in my actual day2day work. I also do alot of administrative tasks like write up certain documentation around the applications.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learned a wealth of new skills such as programming in multiple languages and working with different technologies. I have also developed my interpersonal skills which is great for the corporate environment as I have been able to hone in on my professional skills which will no doubt help me in the future e.g. writing professional emails.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the programme for the most part - learning new technologies and being apart of a team which is good at helping me out. The apprentice coordinator is really easy to contact and to get a hold of which is really handy. The culture of Accenture is really good as there is a proactive drive for continuous learning. The downside of Accenture is that because its a consultancy firm you have to find projects your self and as an apprentice you dont have any empirical skills. So you may not get the projects you want due to the project managers due diligence. Another issue is there can be alot of business politics at play.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Accentures degree apprenticeship in scotland is in its second year and has alot of time yet to be streamlined and ironed out. So the structure is new for the apprenticeship team and the apprentices. There is a decent induction when you join however after this "bootcamp" the support dips abit. Training is great at Accenture as you have the facilities to learn anything there(anything technical) and Accenture promote the continuous learning. Team hierarchy and task delegation is fine as there is a tall hierarchy so tasks do end up on your desk.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • There is alot of support from the employer and i cant fault it one bit. If you have an issue there is about 5 different people you can contact from different parts of the business. Accenture have a mentor scheme where you can be a mentee from someone higher up in the business. They are good at career directions etc.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • For Uni training support is there but limited however i believe the education institution is partly to blame as they are sometimes vague with their direction for the employer and have more of an individual study approach. This can lead to less support as its encouraged for students to learn on their own.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • the qualification is a massive help for me to perform better in my role as what i am learning is directly applicable in my project. This is great as new technologies i learn are being used and i have a good perspective on what i am working on due to the education.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yeah Accenture has alot of networking events throughout the year and it varies. They have a good initiative to have more events occurring. My team however dont do many social events or networking which isnt too great as I cant build a closer relationship but thats on a team on team basis.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Accenture to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • If you are interested in Tech/Business for a career path - Accenture is a great place for that as Accenture is what you make of it. You can dabble in loads of technologies and learn anything you want to which is great aswell as have the support to learn it.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Accenture?
  • A tip I would have is to have some sort of portfolio you can bring to show of why you love technology and in the interview talk about what benefits you can bring to the client. Also a love of technology and have a passion for learning. Also be tenacious
