  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am part of a translations team, so my role involves being part of and leading various projects around translations. I also help to co-ordinate my team and any of their activities. I am involved in analysing the translations metrics, such as: Right First Time, On Time Delivery, Renegotiations and Cancellations. And I help the team to identify solutions to problem areas and markets.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed my presenting skills, as I am required to present formal presentations and contribute to informal discussions on a weekly basis. I have also majorly developed my IT skills, specifically Microsoft Office applications such as Excel and PowerPoint. As well as learning about other systems used at Pfizer.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy my role at Pfizer because it challenges me on a daily basis and has helped me develop the specific skills I need for my university course. As well as helping to develop my personal skills. Since the beginning of the course I have worked with a wide range of people and am always being encouraged to network and widen my knowledge of people in the company.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Due to the training provider I have had a lot of issues with the structure and organisation of my programme. There has been a lot of uncertainty around the timelines and expectations of the course which has caused concerns throughout the apprenticeship. This includes the expectation of when I would sit my exam- which caused a lot of anxiety and I had insufficient time to study. This also didn't match up with the timelines stated in the National Apprenticeship Standard for Project Management.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a lot of support from Pfizer and Cogent collectively. They have worked together throughout my programme to ensure I am happy and receiving the expected commitment from the university. They help with any and all of my concerns- personal and professional- to work towards what is best for me as an individual.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • At the beginning of the programme the support from my training provider was very poor. I wasn't receiving any of the expected support from my skills development coach or from the online lectures. As new students we were confused and felt like we hadn't been introduced to the course properly. After working with Pfizer and Cogent, this has improved slowly throughout the course and I'm now confident I have a lot of support from my new skills development coach.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel like it is more the other way round- my experience in Pfizer has helped me throughout my qualification. It's the experience of working, and the people I've had the opportunity to work with who have taught me the most about Project Management. The delivery of the qualification has been poor throughout the course.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are no sports teams that I am aware of. But as an apprenticeship committee, the apprentices at Pfizer work to organise regular social events with each other. Pfizer are also very open, and encourage networking wherever possible. So although I'm not aware of them organising any specific events, I know I would always be encouraged if the opportunity came up.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Pfizer to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend Pfizer to someone else because the apprenticeship programmes they offer are a great alternative to university. Everyone is very friendly and inclusive and will always try their best to support your own individual needs. There are lots of opportunity for professional and personal development within the company.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Pfizer?
  • Be open! Pfizer and it's colleagues are all very open and understanding. This also means being open to change and trying out new things- even if they are out of your comfort zone! I would also encourage them to share ALL ideas! One thing I've learnt is that there is never a bad idea- Pfizer always encourage you to think out of the box.
