  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • At this moment in time, main tasks comprise of administrative duties, for example document preps for renewals. I would prep these documents so the other people in my team can finish them off by inputting data they have found out from being on the renewal. Also i have correspondence with clients if they have any queries as well as correspondence with clients and insurers to assist their renewals.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I feel like i have highly developed by English skills, as i constantly have to read and write and i now feel like i am familiar with a lot of emails, so i feel confident in completing them in various scenarios and i am always reading client contracts and policy wordings. I also feel like i have developed my confidence a lot when talking to senior people and people i haven't met as in this industry you are constantly meeting new people.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am very happy with my programme that has been set up for me. I believe it gives me an amazing amount of experience within the insurance industry and importantly i feel i have been given a lot of exposure which is brilliant as i like to be chucked in the deep end so to speak. The team i work in are lovely, they have helped me out so much, and have given me so much exposure, therefore i feel like i have learnt a lot and i have only been on the apprenticeship scheme 6 months.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I feel like the structure of the programme as been well organised. At the start of my apprenticeship, my induction consisted of a two week conference centre where i learnt and developed skills specfic to the industry i would be going in to as well as met my peers and my line manager. Since then i feel like this has remained consistent - we have been given montly meetings with our training provider who has helped and has given us feedback on how we are doing and where we can improve if need be. We also have been given revision days with a tutor where we meet up with our peers and go through the exam we are due to sit.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I feel like i receive a lot of support from my company, they have been helpful with the amount of time you can have off for an exam, the amount of time you can revise at the work place and have helped with providing us training providers which has given me reassurance with the company i work for.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I feel like we recieve a fair amount. unfortunately i am an exception within this, as i completed prior qualifications and this has given me exemptions and therefore i passed the qualification early. However i still get support in other areas and they i feel like they provide me with healthy advice towards my career and future qualifications.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Interestingly i feel like the qualification and exams i have undertook have been very relevant to the day to day work i complete. I often feel like after taking an exam and understanding everything in the text book, i can then relate that to my work and it helps me complete it.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes, currently we are in lockdown due to covid-19 however prior to this we would often go out for lunchs, big teams would organise drinks where we would go to some fancy place in London and drinks would be provided for us for a few hours. Over christmas we had our do's, one of them we went out for dinner and then went on a night out.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Aon to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I believe they have structured the apprenticeship very well as due to my own experience in gaining a lot of exposure and learning lots since i have been here, i believe that any friend i recommend who has an interest in joining the insurance industry will not be let down by Aon and their programme.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Aon?
  • Through my own experience, due to myself not finding my career straight awway, i would tell them to understand the industry, find out a bit about it and then confirm if you want to proceed down this path and then i would tell them that unfortunately it is not easy so you will need patience and you will have to be motivated to further your career in this industry.
