  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role as an apprentice is to support and take on responsiility for tasks contributing towards our clients, as a team. As I am in the apprenticeship scheme, I do not have any clients of my own, but I prep and finalise slips, produce endorsements and request invoices. Furthermore, I carry out additional tasks wherever needed in order to meet the needs of our clients.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Over the 6 months I have been at Aon in the apprenticeship scheme, I have developed my proffesionalism, initiative, confidence and performance. I feel like I have achieved great imporvements due to the nature of the workplace and colleagues around me as well as the desire to improve as an independant person. There are also new system skills that I have learnt, purely focused on my role and the insurance industry which has meant I have settled in quickly and my progress is noted.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my programme to the extent that I have a supportive team and company behind me. As well as, the support from the external trainer and internal support being great. The programme has caused significant progress in my personal and professional skills and therefore I can say it has been everything I expected and more.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is 18 months long which allows me to complete my Cert CII qualification and an End Point Assessment to sign me off, by the external trainer. This gives a stable amount of time to study towards each exam, especially in current conditions where exams are suspended, this means I will still have the right amount of time. In addition, the basis of the programme is very well organised with contiinous support from the Early Careers team and communication with the team I work in.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I have meeting every month with a coach from the training provider in order to talk about not only my qualifications but also my day-today role, studying and also general progress. This support includes tasks which are set every month to complete in order to develop new skills to meet requirements set out by the training provider and help sign me off at the end of the apprenticeship scheme.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel that it helps explore new avenues to insurance as well as writing and professional skills. These contribute to my role well as I can apply several things I learn, for example, adding more structure to my work by using different resources and techniques. Overall, they help me strive to complete my Cert CII alongside the apprenticeship qualification.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are regular networking events that take place in local places near the office which help you interact and meet new people which helps build relationships well. Also, the CII help create events in partnership to attend and get involved with to learn more about the industry and hear about other peoples experience in Insurance.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Aon to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • They are extremely supportive, as well as having excellent resources and links to several underwriters. They are one of the biggest Insurance Brokers in the world and have just merged with Willis, meaning there is even greater opportunity for the company to keep striving forward. The apprenticeship offers great skills and future ahead for any individual who is willing to work hard.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Aon?
  • Be yourself, confident and enthusiastic. Any employer wants to see that you are determined and hard-working so that they know that they will initially have an apprentice with a good work ethic. Also, work hard in school to get the grades and get your applicstion off to a great start. Finally, always express yourself as much as possible and use past experience to show the examiner/interviewer in the short space of time given, that you are a great worker that would be an asset to any company.
