  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role is a precision machining apprentice, therefore I spend the day working on machines in the workshop to create various components. I am trained how to use the different machines then I gain experience by using them to create the components. As well as practical work I may also spend time on theory work such as training courses etc.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I have found the apprenticeship programme to be very well organised and structured. When initially joining there was a thorough induction process followed by training when firstly entering the workplace. Throughout the programme there has been regular training and support. This include meetings with managers, courses etc. What is require of you is planned out so you know what you are working towards.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Support during the apprenticeship has been good, any time support is needed it can be received by talking to a manager. There is also a HR team which can be contacted for further support. As well as being supported by the employer and manager you can often receive support from colleagues at work.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The qualification is gained by attending college one day a week and therefore during this time any support that is needed can be addressed. The tutors at college offer support and guidance which is helpful. With only going to college one day a week it can be difficult to complete assignments, therefore time has to be spent on this outside of work hours, however this is to be expected.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualification that I am gaining helps me understand the theory behind things that I do within my role. Therefore it helps me perform better. The training teaches me about principles within engineering which I am able to relate to things done within my job. During the qualification I have learnt more and gained a wider knowledge of engineering.
