  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Client Service Advisor - I work alongside Client Managers to ensure a high level service to the client in accordance with their needs agreed with the team. On a day-to-day basis I will request renewal information to be used in risk presentations, I will populate renewal reports with the insurers terms, bind cover and invoice the client within the deadlines. I regularly communicate with the client to answer queries regarding their insurance.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • My communication skills via email and on the phone have developed since being with Aon. In addition, I have learnt how to communicate differently with clients vs insurers vs my team. I have always managed my time well but i have learnt to be even more time savvy because i often have multiple renewals with multiple deadlines so it is important to be on top of them and chase people for what you need in good time incase there are any issues.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have enjoyed the programme a lot because I can see the growth in my knowledge and experience in the 18 months. This excites me because I am now looking forward to how i would like to improve and grow even further in my role. At times, the programme has felt daunting due to the amount of responsibility but my manager is always very supportive.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I think the programme is well structured as you know that you must complete the 3 exams and then create your portfolio of evidence, but in my opinion nothing else has felt structured - which is a positive. My manager has increased my workload as and when i have been ready for more complex clients. With this has come independence and confidence to tackle queries because i have been ready.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I feel as though if I ever had an issue, I would recieve the support I need if i reached out - as a first point of call i would approach my manager as i am not sure who else i could approach. Day-to-day my manager and team are supportive of my studies and progress.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • In my experience my coach will ask when I feel comfortable sitting my exams and then they will book it on my behalf, my coach also takes a note of when my revision session is. At our monthly catch ups they check where in the book i am and that i am on track to pass the exam/ have any questions. Gathering the portfolio of evidence was a somewhat stressful task and support felt limited as my coach would not always answer mine or my managers queries. My manager is extremely supportive so if i ever needed help i went to my manager rather than my training coach as i felt more comfortable.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The content that i learnt for my Cii examinations has really cemented my understanding of insurance principles, the regulation to which i must abide and much more. This really helped me in my role as i knew nothing before and i could link my work to the book to understand why we did something in a certain way etc. Creating my portfolio has given me confidence in myself which helps me perform better in my role because i was proud of my evidence and what i have achieved in a short time. The qualification still leaves gaps but these are filled with experience and exposure.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are plenty of opportunities to meet colleagues from other parts of the business which is great. Due to my role insurers often invite the team to lunch/ seminars which are fun as you get to meet people and expand your knowledge. My office run a pilaties class weekly at a lunch time - other than that i don't know of any extra-cirricular activities.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Aon to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Aon promotes development which is such a positive as i have been able to spend working hours with memebers of other teams to expand my Aon IQ and see what other teams are out there which i may wish to pursue a career with in the future. I feel as though with our benefits we are looked after well by Aon and in my office i feel as though good work is recognised which encourages you to continue positive behaviour which benefits your career development and your team.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Aon?
  • Make sure that you are honest in your application so there is a true expectation of what your capabilities are. Do your research and have a career plan, if Aon can see you are comitted to driving your career with them then they will want to invest time into you. Believe in yourself.
