  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work in tax so I am responsible for saving client's money through tax relief. On a day to day basis as an apprentice my time is spent between on the job learning ( via online/ in person Learning) and actual practical chargeable client work. I will often be introduced to new aspects of tax which keeps my job exciting.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt many new skills. Firstly during my time at EY my confidence has grown massively. This is due to the constant opportunities to contribute to team meetings/ team projects and other extra curricular opportunities. The overall responsibility from my role has also improved my business skills as a whole.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my programme very much. The opportunities within my role are endless and if you strive to improve then you can advance very far both professionally and personally. I have a cohort of apprentices and Graduates which I stay in contact with on a day to day basis which improves the experience for me.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The Degree apprenticeship programme is very structured. There are a range of job role specific training courses on offer which EY organise and provide for me. Also there is a range of online learning which is completed as part of the apprenticeship programme. The team structure is also very clear throughout the organisation.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I have a range of support on offer from EY. Firstly each apprentice is assigned a Buddy. This Buddy is there to help you out on a day to day process with anything that you do not understand in your role. I also have a counsellor who supports my progression and any personal issues.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Kaplan have a website with a range of services available including online copies of the workbooks, notes and tutorials as well as a range of testing facilities in the form of chapter tests as well as end of unit tests and mock tests which are helpful for exam preparation. Also the online contact a tutor service is useful.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualification ( ICAEW chartered accountancy qualification ACA) is very relevant to my role in tax as an accountant. The qualification gives me a range of experience relevant in my personal role and beyond in all aspects of the business world. It is helpful as it gives you an understanding of the fundamentals behind my day to day role.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are many extra curricular activities available at EY. There is a five a side football league as well as a multitude of sports on offer. There are also many charitable events which you can sign up for including this years charitable mud run. Furthermore there is the Yearly SKI trip which is very well subscribed too.

  • 9a. Would you recommend EY to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I would definitely recommend EY to a friend. This is due to the massive opportunities that the apprenticeship offers. I have a chance to gain the chartered accountancy status as well as learning on the job and the added bonus of a salary and the experience of working for a big 4 accountancy firm.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
  • I would suggest that you remain true to yourself in the interview process and avoid trying to read of a pre made script as hard as that is! Also really convey your passions as it is likely that there is a place that will fit these passions within the large firm.
