  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Currently I am working as part of a project team. This involves creating ways of working for new machinery, learning how new machinery works as well as having many meetings with managers, colleagues and meeting people off site and communicating with them too.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have both gained new skills and developed any skills I already may have had during my time so far. This has been both through day to day working and interacting with new people, but also external development opportunities.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I thoroughly enjoy the programme I am on, the vast amount of opportunities that I am given both directly relating to my role as well as any extra responsibilities on top of this is great.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme is quite well structured over the 3 years. In the first year whilst learning your new role you take part in day release for college towards a process operations qualification and 2nd year work towards a HNC in General Engineering. Final year is just on the job training.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • As an apprentice you receive quite an extensive amount of support, be it from your colleagues, managers, mentors or fellow members of the early talent community.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • As the company tend to be the ones who put you through your qualifications they are extremely supportive in ensuring that you are completing this as expected and are willing to find means of academic support when needed.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualifications I have worked towards/am working towards really help me in my day to day role by giving me the fundamental knowledge of production processes as well as the engineering knowledge to support this.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are a select few extra-curricular activities that occur such as apprentice socials as well business awards that apprentices may sometimes attend. Apprentices are more than welcome to organise extra-curricular events and can be supported by management where acceptable.

  • Yes

  • Based upon all answers above. GSK is a company that really values its apprentice cohort.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to GSK?
  • Do some basic company research so you know who we are/what we do. Be yourself, mention anything that you have been involved in what you have learnt from this/what skills you gained/developed.
