  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • At first an apprentice will be on the bench. This means the apprentice leads need to help the individuals find their first project because it is difficult to do so by themselves. The individual would need to apply for up to 10 roles a week and have interviews to be able to get a project. During the time on the bench they will also need to be doing training and up skilling themselves also while making sure their university work is being done. You mostly interact with your cohort in the beginning and whoever you see while hot desking, but once on a project it all changes. You will mostly have to be on client site and be interacting with seniors on a day to day basis. You will never be responsible to make someone a coffee or tea, you have important responsibilities even for your very first project.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt skills, existing in confidence and time management but also non existing in coding and technologies. There are many technologies I have learnt about that I had never been exposed to before. I am able to talk to seniors on a day to day basis due to the presenting during training.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have had overall 6 months experience so far in this company and during the start of the programme I do not feel that we had enough support that we needed. We had to almost figure things out for ourselves. Although we did have weekly calls on how many roles we apply to we can address our issues there. However we didnt know at the beginning what trainings would be important to us, so it would have been better if the trainings had been listed for us instead of us finding them ourselves.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The structure of the programme is ok. As I said before, some people can be on the bench for a long time and they say you have to come to work but this can be difficult when hot desking or sitting in the cafe area where the chairs are not comfortable. It would be great to possibly have an area where only apprentices could go to study.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • There are many people to support you in the Accenture programme, however some people including myself may not establish a connection with the people they have been partnered up with. For example my career counsellor does not respond to my messages sometimes and the buddy I have been allocated is not supportive at all. In this case you have online chat options to speak to someone from Accenture if you have a question or you could go to HR.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The university of East London are not very supportive unfortunately. While they do have an online forum and an emailing system where you can contact the lecturers, they might email back sometimes 3 days later. The tutorials after the lectures are helpful and the exams are marked fairly, but to my belief they are not allowed to disclose information such as your grade received in an actual exam, however they disclosed my information only I should be seeing to the whole of the class.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • At university the modules that we go through have to be learnt very quickly and the exams are also over before we know it. Its hard to remember information that is only learnt within 2 weeks and not learnt again. However the coding modules that we are doing where we create a website or code a small game is great, I have established my coding skills from here.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are too many to count. You are able to join social activities after work, social activities on the weekend, there might be a social activity for a few days such as a skiing trip, this brings me to the networking opportunites. You are able to join many networks and this could be religious networks or fun hobbies that you enjoy such as photography. The networks will have events almost every month, so when you join the networks you enjoy you have up to 8 events to go to every month so its pretty great.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Accenture to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • My overall experience with Accenture has been great, even if there are not people there to support you sometimes it is very important to be individual at times and in the end someone will always be there even within your cohort. The thing that makes Accenture for me is the people and the passion, if youre passionate about the company and what they do then you will have an amazing time.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Accenture?
  • With my experience and also helping others in their interview process, I know a lot of people say this but be yourself. Accenture actually love personality and you can see that when you look around the company theres just so many different types of people. I would also tell them that if you truly dont enjoy tech then dont bother applying because tech is what you will breathe.
