Tax Advisor Review

Work with the capital allowances team to analyse and review cost data for clients. Day to day, usually I begin with a meeting or team catch up. But generally, I tend to insert cost information into our reports, analyse it, and this includes deciding if it will qualify for tax relief from the government or not.

I have learnt so many new skills. These include improving my understanding of Microsoft Excel, as this is what we use daily to produce our reports. I`ve also become more personable and willing to take on responsibilities. For example recently I helped organise an external event, a client seminar discussing renewable energy.

Before signing up I didn't really have much of an idea into what I was getting into really. I knew EY was a great company, but I did not realise how amazing it truly is. I feel supported at all times and the culture, specifically within my team, is something that I believe is very rare.

From my experience so far it is very well structured. Before joining we all attend an induction where we meet other joiners and learn the basics about the company. Then once you start, you meet your buddy and are assigned a counsellor, both who are there to support you with anything you may need.

The support network at EY is amazing ! Everyone new is assigned a buddy who teaches you the ins and outs of working there, and you also get a counsellor who will catch up with you regularly, to see if you`re doing okay, if there is anything you think could be better etc.

So far I`ve only attended one week of college, but that was very informative and we received a bunch of materials to help us prepare for exams. There are online sessions that run constantly and I have contacts of tutors to contact if I do happen to have any queries.

I have found that there are thing that I learnt that have helped me day to day. For example even just seeing a general tax computation, or being told about case law - both have helped me do my job better, to a higher standard. I feel like I know more about my industry.

Yes there are many extra curricular activities. For example, I`ve played football with the EY five a side team, there are constant quizzes, events to meet other new joiners etc. As a department, we have also recently signed up for a charity 5k mud run, which is just one charitable activity EY encourages.

Yes

I`ve only been here for a short time, but I`ve already learnt so much! From basic skills such as how to create a pivot table on excel, to understanding complex tax legislation. Also every person I`ve encountered has honestly been so lovely and the company culture is amazing.

Our key saying is "building a better working world", so keep that in mind during each stage of the application process. Think about what you personally can do to help others, and what you have done previously.
