  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • On a day to day basis my role requires us to deal with customers who may have a fault on their line or have recently order a new telecoms product so we may be required to fit it. Therefore we are required to have good customer skills so we can talk to but also explain anything to the customer. Even though we work on our own we do need good team work because at times assistant is needed to complete the job. I always aim to get the customer as happy as possible with the service so not only does it look good on my working skills but it shows Openreach as a company are reliable and efficient.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • New skills I have learnt range from dealing with customers to also the wiring side of engineering. I have learnt how to deal with customers whether it is a difficult situation or whether it is just explaining certain areas of the job. I have also learnt about different wiring techniques, which are the best but also which are the most effective for the customer.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my programme to the extent of knowing you always have support when needed no matter what the job or work is you are doing, but also the fact they put their trust in you doing work individually so they helps me grow in confident in the work I am carrying out.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I think the programme I am on is structure very well due to the fact that it allows you block days to complete your NVQ work where as personally if I had to do it in my own time I would struggle to complete it but also the support and guidance is there so you know what to do, how to do it and the best way to finish it.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Support is always there when you need it for work, it might not be there right away but it will always come back to you within a short period of time so you can keep working effectively without any barriers stopping you. They are willing to support you in ways whether is it something you are struggling with or whether it is something you believe you will be good at so want to take that path in developing your skills.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive a good amount of support from my training provider because they show me what sort of work to carry out but what information to gather so my work is completed to the best possible quality. Also if struggling to find the right way of explaining it they are able to tell me about what to right and how to write it.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel my qualification through my training provider helps me perform better in my role because it shows me different ways to look at my work and makes me realise there are ways to complete tasks in an effective way but also do it the best standard for customers satisfaction.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I am unaware of any activities involved in the work however if I feel like that is something I would be interested in then I can go to my patch leads to discuss anything that will not just benefit socialising but build stronger working relationship with the people I work with.

  • 9a. Would you recommend BT to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend BT to a friend because of the size of the company and different career paths you can take. Also the training they put into us is top quality which allows anyone who might not feel confident in what their doing actually gain confidence. Not only is the pay very well due to the stage we are at but what bonuses and credits we get as an employer as well.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BT?
  • I would advice them to always ask for support or advice when in a difficult position. Make sure they be honest about anything they are unsure about but also don't be afraid to put yourself forward so you get the credit and recognition you deserve for the work you have done.
