  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a Service delivery Engineer. I install Phone Lines all around my Local area. I also fix problems with phone lines and meet people from all walks of life on a daily basis. It is a challenging role but one I truly love. I am a major part of keeping the network working.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have lots of new technical skills which allow me to do my job daily. I have also learned new ways to meet people as well as getting to know customers and their needs. Each job is a different job with different people In a different location which makes each day challenging but rewarding.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The programme is excellent I have learned new Computing skills as well retaking old exams like English and Maths which I last took 28 years ago. I have found some of the Items challenging but definitely rewarding. I have enjoyed the programme so much as I've met fellow Engineers and have realised they have the same fears and goals as myself.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is very well structured. My Assessor Lee is Brilliant to calm any fears or worries you may have with each Item, pointing you in the direction in how to achieve your goals with your own hard work and determination. Each section is very well thought out to help with our own knowledge.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I have received excellent support from my employer/Manager they have always allowed me to work on my NVQ if I've needed to. They have given me an extra day "off" so to speak to allow me to get the necessary pictures to accompany my Folder of work. I am very grateful to them.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive absolutely amazing support to allow me to complete my NVQ. Nothing is too much trouble, whatever questions I may have I always have had a concise answer to allow me to go in the right and correct direction. I can call on the phone or email and I always get a prompt reply.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It has definitely helped me in my day to day role. I am quicker and more responsive in my role which allows me to a better quality job for each and every customer - getting in right first time is very important. It has definitely helped me every day no question.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There is opportunity to meet fellow engineers in social gatherings especially at Christmas time where we will meet and drink Beer, beer, beer, shorts, beer, Christmas meals beer, beer, beer bit of dancing and some more beer which is always fun always good to meet up outside of work when possible.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • They are an amazing company who really look after their employees with brilliant rates of pay excellent benefits package and excellent opportunities to excel and further your career. I have only been with the company for a year but a lot of friends have been made and the support you get makes it feel like a family.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BT?
  • Be honest be prepared to work as hard as you can because you will enjoy your day to day more and more. Each day is a challenge but once you have done the job in front of you to a brilliant quality standard you feel like you have achieved something great.
