  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Marketing project management involves creating new products and overseeing the development of them. I'm involved in both the creative side (e.g. packaging designs) and project management (e.g. holding network meetings, taking the projects for gate reviews)

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Lots! I have one study day a week where I spend my time working towards my exam as well as doing any training needed for my role. I've also developed a lot of business knowledge having never worked in an office before.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • It's a tough job for a young person just out of school and you have to be prepared to put the hours in - but i have a lot of flexibility so if i need to leave early, my manager will understand. The team is really welcoming and treat me as a normal employee rather than 'just an apprentice'.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The training induction process was pooe. We had little to no work given to us by our training provider for months, however now we have loads and it's really well structured and collaborative between the people on my course and my coach. We also have mentors from older apprentices, although this only started 6 months into the programme.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My manager is very supportive and will always make sure I am not overwhelmed by my work or feeling out of my depth. However, the managers did not get much training on what an apprentice should be doing, what level of work should we be given etc. before we joined and for the first few months that made it harder. The mentoring scheme would have been more useful during the induction process when naturally you have more questions. At this stage in my apprenticeship, I would rather be mentored by someone in a later stage of their career who can give me advice from a different perspective.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My tutor is fast to respond and really helpful with the feedback he gives. When i've asked for more support in the past, he has been happy to provide it and will always make sure i am keeping up to date with my work.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Yes, it helps to put it all into context and understand what is industry standard versus what my company does.

    7/10

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • no - would love for the role to be more social (not only apprentices, but with the wider company)

  • 9a. Would you recommend Unilever to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It's a huge organisation to work for and really impressive to future employers. It also gives you a lot of exposure

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Unilever?
  • Make sure you research well about the Unilever brands - do you have a favourite? why? what do they do that you like? Make sure you can talk about how the brands, or unilever as a company, have impacted you.
