  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • As a manufacturing apprentice at a pharmaceutical site, I shadow the process technicians and help them in the production batch powders. We have to follow the log sheets carefully to make sure the products we produce are of a top quality standard.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes, I have learned a lot about the legislations surrounding the manufacture of pharmaceuticals, and what would happen if we didn't meet the stipulations set by the HSE.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy my apprenticeship programme, I have been given a lot of responsibilities which make me an important part of the working team, which really gives me a lot of job satisfaction.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My apprenticeship is very well organised, we are given a new rotor yearly which tells us our college weeks and our placement rotations, and we also use outlook, which organises all of our meetings and courses on our online calendar.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a lot of support from my employer, they always put me forward to any courses I want to take part in.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive a lot of support, while studying for my HNC I struggle wit the maths, so I went to the apprentice manager who helped me by getting in touch with the site logistical team, now I have regular meetings with them for tutoring.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualifications I have gained through GEN2 have helped in many situations on site, from the basic hand tool training I received, to the technical break down of the solvent pumps we use on site.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I am a stem ambassador so I take part regularly in stem events through GSK, I also regularly go to our on site gym where I have made lots of new friends.

  • 9a. Would you recommend GSK to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • My apprenticeship has really brought me out of my shell and made me much more confident. I really enjoy working at GSK, and its a great feeling knowing that what I do at work helps people do more, feel better and live longer.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to GSK?
  • don't worry about not having a lot of technical knowledge or experience, an apprenticeship is the best way to gain both of them.
