  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Contributing to the positive safety culture on site daily. Creating environmental or health and safety communications on relevant topics and environmental issues to communicate across the site. ensuring that the sites chemical inventories are aligned and up to date with available safety data sheets available online which ensures that everyone on site has access to the most recent, up to date and accurate information regarding substance they may use frequently or need to use non- routinely. Contribute to area risk assessments and gemba the site for specific reasons such as how a new piece of equipment may impact the safety of the team or environment. provide communications to the site about the weeks safety information, any accidents, incidents or how many Zero Accident Promotion (ZAPs) cases have been logged by employees. ZAPs allow employees to raise any concerns, safety issues, near misses, unsafe behaviours and positive safety conversations between employees or contractors

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed communication skills, and computer skills such as building upon Microsoft office skills, using Linked In learning to aid with my understanding abilities with Microsoft excel. I have also learnt the process of gemba'ing and the different audit levels used around site and how they contribute to the continuous improvements cycle.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the programme a lot so far. I am able to meet different people around site and gain valuable information and experience from them. I am also able to shadow different employees to understand the workings of the company on different levels.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • the organisation of the programme is flexible to suit my learning needs and preferences and I am able to adapt my working schedule/ rotations to align to that of my college assignments and projects.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive an adequate amount of support from my employer and am able to seek additional support when I may feel I need it. However I like to try to be quite independent and this is possible

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive a decent amount of support from the college, although not as much as I did before my college tutor changed.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I find that the qualification is great at giving me the basic knowledge to build upon and implement in my daily routine. I am currently on a Level 3 NVQ but will be developing to a Level 5 after this qualification which will build on the basics I am gaining now.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are many extras via the apprenticeship scheme. I am a STEM ambassador, undertaking my Silver Award in the Duke of Edinburgh Programme supported through work with the other apprentices. I am able to join societies, have social events with the apprentices and embark on outwards bounds and resilience trips.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • It is a great place to be an apprentice. lots of support and a good and large community of apprentices. we get to hold meetings, embark on extra curricular activities and are valued as part of the team as well. The benefits package and wage are great.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to GSK?
  • Learn about the company and their values and how you would compliment the company etc
