  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • On a Day to Day basis my role consists on working on different projects, designing on different CAD software and currently helping to assemble designs that I have been working on that have been sent to manufacture. I also spend my days participating in meetings about current projects and projects that will be up and coming in the near future.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt many new skills during my time as an apprentice including how to efficiently use design software such as Autodesk Inventor. Have learnt many crucial skills such as hand fitting, milling, turning, electrical and mechanical maintenance as well as electrical installation. recently I have also learnt how to use a CNC engraving machine that has been used on the projects that I am working on.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy the programme that I am currently on, I get along well with the team that I am working in and there are a lot of other apprentices within the office a similar age to me that I get long with and also meet up with outside of work.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I feel that the programme that I am on is fairly well organised, there have been a few little mishaps but nothing too serious and also nothing that hasn't been sorted now. Mostly everything seems to be running on schedule and everything seems to be organised/structured as I would expect

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a lot of support from my employer. If there is any guidance I need or any help there is always someone that I can ask. There are multiple support networks within the company that are available to employees, whether the employee is a fully qualified employee or whether they are an apprentice.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • From my training provider I have received all the help I require to pass my qualifications with them. While working towards my HNC qualification the units that I am studying mostly tie into the work I am doing within my workplace so help me further understand what I am working towards.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I do feel that the work I do within college mostly helps with what I am working on within my role at work. Most of the units link well with what I need to know to perform my role and theory units most include practical's to solidify the knowledge that has been learnt.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I have got involved with helping out at STEM events through work as well as being a mentor for Go4SET and helping a group of students in a ten week long project. Socially, myself and other apprentices within the office have met after work to play badminton and basketball on multiple occasions.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Cavendish Nuclear to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I feel that Cavendish Nuclear is a good place to work as there are many opportunities that can be taken advantage of over the multiple sites and offices. I feel there are great progression opportunities as well as many different networks that can be joined that offer support if it is ever needed.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Cavendish Nuclear?
  • Advice I would give to anyone wanting to apply for a role at Cavendish Nuclear is to research the company and acquire some background knowledge and history about the company for the use within an interview. Assessment days are used as part of the application process so it would be good practice to ensure that you prepared for that.
