  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work in the purchasing hub and we are responsible for ordering all necessary equipment, supplies, furniture and uniforms within the council. I also review CCDM transactions and search for cheaper/best value items to meet the needs of different services. Carry out general administrative duties on a daily basis.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed my customer service skills as I can now communicate more effectively with people over the phone. I have gained skills in learning ordering processes and transaction reviewing, taking and writing minutes of meetings. This job has also enabled me to work to deadlines and be more organised.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my programme as it is extra work to do and I enjoy the written tasks and preparing for exams.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I had a lot of problems at the start of my programme but ever since I got a new trainer the structure of my programme is a lot more punctual and I know where I am with my progress and workload.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a lot of support from my employer as when Babington was not supportive and I was confused with what was happening regarding my trainer my manager helped me a lot with my workload and was trying to get in touch with the provider to sort this.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My new trainer who I have had since the end of last year has been a lot better and supports me with my progress. She explains things to me much more clearly and regularly checks to make sure I am okay with the workload.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My trainer now encourages me to try do the best I can with my work and sets me reasonable workloads that she knows I am capable of doing. She also encourages me to consider doing the next level NVQ as she believes I would enjoy it and succeed.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are several networks that can be joined to do with different things. These can be after work, during work, or in lunch breaks.

  • Yes

  • many opportunities to progress in future careers and plenty of support and helplines from managers and helplines in the council network.
