  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Within my role I have to deal with incoming queries to our team inbox and also over the phone, these could include things such as payment queries or information request. I also have to process applications and save customer information to our files as well as invoicing people who hire our facilities.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt a lot of new skills such as how to use email as this was something I wasn't required to do before working at the council. I also improved customer service skills as I have to deal with phone calls in a professional manner which is a completely new skill for me.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my programme as Leeds City Council offer good training and it's easy to become use to working full time as its a relaxed but hard working environment. Sometimes it can become repetitive which can make work slightly boring but that's the only negative to the roll.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I don't think my programme is well structured as my previous tutor often didn't show and she didn't really update me on my progress, although I understand some of this is down to me Idid think the programme was very poor until I got a new tutor who resolved many of the issues and works hard to get me back on track.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I received a bit of support from my employer as I was given 1 day every week to complete work for my apprenticeship and also in my 1 to 1 with my manager where she always asked how my qualification was going and if I needed any further support for it.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • To start with I didn't receive much support as my tutor rarely came into visit or contacted me. However, since I have had a new tutor I feel like I have been well supported as she has regularly visited and have had work set for me and I have also been kept up to date with how I am progressing.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel that it does help me to perform better as it has helped me to have a better understanding of things such as health and safety and how to maintain office equipment. The only thing I have found is that it's hard to help improve performance as every job is different so the stuff you learn isn't specific to the job.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • They do run some things on a lunch time but this is quite rare, there is different training sessions that you can attend that are optional and these are put on our intrenet or the system we use for personal development. Once a year we get the choice to attend an event through the day where we can find out all the councils plans for the upcoming year.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Leeds City Council to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • There is good benefits such as flexi time which is where you can build up time to take additional leave. The hours are also flexible and you the dress code is smart casual so it is a relaxed environment which takes the pressure off work slightly. I also like the fact that managers have regular 1 to 1 meetings with staff as this gives members of staff to be express their feelings in away from the desk.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Leeds City Council?
  • It is important to put 100% effort into applying for a role here as there are a lot of opportunities for progression once you get that first job and I found that once you get the first job that it is much easier to then progress into another internal position.
