  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • As an overview my role involves working closely with buyers to achieve sales target by monitoring and forecasting sales and controlling stock accurately. My day to day role involves communicating with suppliers to ensure the product will be delivered on time, in the right quantity and then manage distribution of stocks in stores.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • The key skills I believe are important in my role are commercial awareness, teamwork, communication skill, staying calm in pressure situations, confidence, numerical and analytical skill, decision making and organisational skill, IT skill like knowledge of Excel. Some of these skill I developed in my previous roles and some I learned in this role.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy what I do. When I come in on Monday and see me work has an impact on sales number, it has a satisfaction to it. I enjoy analysing data to find potential risk and opportunities of a trend, so for me my role gives me the exact opportunity to do just that.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The structure is broken down into theoretical learning and on job training. With theoretical learning there is mapping between the knowledge and skills with my role requirement which helps me to understand my role and its impact on the wider business. And with on job training it helps me to grow more confident in doing my day to day role.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer is open and flexible in regards to working hour and environment, which helps to complete my knowledge learning part in my own pace. Also there are help available in form of training and mentoring when things get a bit tough. The culture in my workplace encourages me to ask questions if I ever struggle to get a grasp of something.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My training proves support is essential for me to grow into my role. Without the support from my coach and the materials provided to me by the training provider, I would struggle to understand the wider impact of my role performs in the business environment. My training provider also guides me in practicing softer skills which have immediate effect to my day to day performance.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel my qualification will boost my confidence to do my job well. It will highlight the facts which I am good at and where I need to put more effort into. My qualification will also provide the base to take my career further and open doors for me to move forward.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • The environment in my office encourages its employees to get involved in extracurricular activities. The vision behind that is, a healthy mind is a lot more productive in work. So there are team days out, healthy eating promotions, weight loss challenges and charity activities to encourage employees to get involved the way they prefer and stay active.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • As one of the major retailer in the industry, TESCO has a lot of opportunities to learn and develop a career. They also have got quite an extensive training program and employees are encouraged to take full advantage to the program. The skill and experience of employees are also evaluated to create further opportunities of growth for the employee.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Tesco?
  • When applying to TESCO you should do proper research of its environment where it operates. This will highlight the opportunities and risks the company is or may encounter in future. That will help you to anticipate the companies’ direction. An employer always wants to see if its future employer is ready and capable for the company’s future.
