  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I'm an Interpreting Coordinator Apprentice at the Big Word. Our duty on the MOJ helpdesk is to provide interpreters for our bookings (courts, police bookers, Salvation Army etc) and deal with any cancellations, amendments or payment queries. This will ultimately lead to a qualification in Business Administration Level 2.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed my customer service and communication skills massively whilst being a part of the MOJ helpdesk. Which includes dealing with clients in a polite and calm manner and asking for help whenever necessary. I have also learnt how to work both as part of a team and independently.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my programme to a large extent as I am able to build a good relationship with my colleagues and clients/ linguists. Not only this but it is a positive feeling being able to help and solve our client's queries.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme is very well organised as I am given a total of 8 hours a week to do my off the job apprenticeship training. I also find my tutor, manager and peers very helpful when it comes to needing any assistance. 1-2-2 meetings are also a regular occurrence.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My manager and HR team are very reliable when it comes to offering any additional support and often provide regular one to one meetings if needed. Whenever I am dealing with a difficult or argumentative client, my seniors always ensure that they take over the call.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • When working towards my qualification I receive a lot of support from my tutor. I also attend regular meetings (every few weeks) in order to assure all of my work has been done to the best possible standard. This makes my qualification a lot more enjoyable.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel that my qualification has had a huge impact on my every day work as it has help to improve my understanding on certain things - i.e. communication, stakeholders, environmental/ political factors of a business. Without the additional training I believe that I would struggle a lot more.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Our work provide various different extra-curricular activities to get involved in at work. This includes bake sales, bowling, charity football etc. The reason behind these are usually to do with raising money for charity or praise outside of work.

  • Yes

  • I would recommend Babington to a friend because they are very supportive in helping you to achieve a qualification to the highest standard.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to The Big Word?
  • The advice I would give to others applying to Babington would be to remain positive and confident. Don't be afraid to show off your skills and ensure that you are fully prepared for your interview. Asks questions if you are unsure of anything.
