  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I support the buying team with day-to-day activities such has checking the critical paths for different suppliers and there garments. Check fabric approvals for colour, hand feel etc with the support of the assistant buyer to sign it off. Preparing for meeting, weekly trade and fits.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt loads of new skill about different types of fabrics, what makes a garment more expensive/ how to reduce the cost of a garment.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I love the work I do as a trainee buyer. It feels like I am starting my dream job early, if i would have gone to uni i would have started as a trainee in the company post graduation anyway, so i feel i am ahead of the game

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Very well structured with college visits 2 x a month. Only thing i would ask for is a little more clarity on what happens after our two years apprenticeship programme - how likely are we to get our choice in job out of buyer or merch

  • I receive loads of support from my team and the opportunity to attend training days

  • A good amount of support when at the college, support when not in the college is slightly more limited

  • It definitely helps with my job and increases my understanding of how to perform my day - to - day job role

  • Lots of social opportunities for example we have 'Apprentice & grad' drinks in london with the whole of Tesco apprentices & grads. and on woman's wear we also have trainees buyer & merch drinks monthly

  • Be confident, encourage quieter applicants to join in as this shows you're a team player and show creativity
