Work within body engineering creating CAD model tool sets to be used by colleagues in other departments and disciplines. These assist in creating robust and efficient starting geometry allowing the user to work quickly and efficiently when creating their own models. I research any necessary manufacturing methods and take these into account.
I have learned all of the necessary manufacturing standards for components and how to create basic and more complex geometry when required. I have learned how to use computer aided design software (CAD) which is known as CATIA V5, I have learned how to navigate a software called teamcenter which is used to organize and store models.
I really enjoy the degree apprenticeship program as I am learning a lot of new skills and becoming a lot more independent, I really enjoy working on the vehicle programmes that are given to me by my manager as I feel that I am much more involved with the business than when I am on training.
The degree apprenticeship is structured in a very well organised manner. We all have an understanding of where we are heading and what tasks and projects we will undertake during the course of the six years. We have regular reviews on our behavior and performance to ensure that we are on the right track.
I receive large amounts of support from my employer as they allow me to complete any outstanding college work on a Friday afternoon as well as offering me support through my work based learning manager who allows me to have a full understanding of my strengths and weaknesses and where I need to improve.
I go to college on a Monday to complete my lectures and lessons. The training provider gives me extra sessions on a Monday evening to help me improve my maths ability. In work my employer allows me to work on my college work on a Friday afternoon, and offer any support if required.
The qualification that I am working towards at college allows me to gain all of the necessary skills that are required within my job role. I learn about different materials and how different components are manufactured, as well as any tolerances needed. I also look at stress testing of materials and components to help in my job role.
I believe that there are several different extra-curricular opportunities available for people to get together and complete. Within my department there are several social events that occur that all of the apprentices within the department can attend as well as wider social events where more of the business are able to attend.
