  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • my job involves overhauling gas turbine engines. My job consists of stripping, repairing and building the engines. As being an electrical apprentice, I am responsible for the electrical aspects of the engine.

  • Throughout my apprenticeship I have developed my communication skills, my teamwork skills, problem solving skills and my hands on skills.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am really enjoying my apprenticeship at its a massive opportunity to work for one of the biggest companies in the world. I enjoy coming to work in the morning.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I personally think the apprenticeship programme is structured very well, with having the right balance between college and factory work. I also feel that the support apprentices receive is good, answering any questions or issues you have.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • apprentices within GE receive a lot of support when it comes to college, as this understand the importance of our qualifications. The company has provided funding to us to aid with our college project so we can hit the higher grades and come out with a respectable overall grade.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • We receive a lot of support from our training provider with regards to any problems and issues we have with work. they are more than happy to spend extra time explaining something if need be.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • As being an electrical apprentice I feel that my qualification will give me all essential information I need to know about electrical work. they have provided me with knowledge regarding electrical testing and repair, which is beneficial for my job role.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Within GE they run a rugby side called the GE dragons. This side only consists of GE employees and GE contractors. They also allow you to complete the DOE reward.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • The work is exciting and interesting. It also gives you a opportunity to work for one of the largest growing companies in the world.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to GE Aerospace?
  • Have a passion for engineering and enjoy taking stuff apart and rebuilding it.
