CAD engineer in vehicle structures - day to day work includes modelling parts on CAD and carrying out CAE simulations, developing new strategies that can be used on programmes and researching new technologies that may improve our products.
I have learnt several new skills through the training that the company provides such as becoming competent with several softwares that are used in every large engineering organisations. Hands on practical skills have also been improved as we are given the chances to try out different placements
The course is difficult and requires lots of sacrifices but that makes succeeding more enjoyable. In the office on a day to day it is a very good working environment with a lot going on to keep everyone entertained.
Overall the program is well structured but can occasionally lack organisation
JLR give a lot of support in order for the apprentices to achieve well.
Support is only given when asked for it is not offered out due to the nature of the block system.
Having the theoretical knowledge to back up what you do in the office is useful as you can justify any decisions you make.
JLR provide an ELS scheme which gives each employee £200 to learn a new skill. Outside of this each team organise their own social events.
