  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role is Assistant Project Manager. I work alongside the project manager to help deliver multiple projects under our current framework, which is network design. This involves managing the day to day running of the projects. I also hold progress meetings and prepare reports for the clients, while ensuring the finances are controlled and to budget.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Whilst in this role I have learnt costing & budgetary skills and management skills. I have had the time to develop on my communication skills. My manager was very hands on, at this moment in time I do not have a mentor but my apprenticeship is helping e develop and improve skills as I go along.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I like that my apprenticeship ties in really well with my day to day role. This helps me to improve on my role as I learn and put my new skills to practice which is very enjoyable. I really enjoy the day lessons being in a group environment learning from other peoples experiences.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The structure of my programme is good, we learn a series of subjects over 12 day lessons prior to the initial exam. I have my own assessor to support me through the programme and we have regular visits and calls to check my progress. I also have a mentor at work who will spend time going through things with me helping me understand and problem subjects.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I have my mentor which has been very helpful when I can get his time, due to his high profile role he is often extremely busy. I am meant to be allowed a certain amount of time free from my day to day role to study my course which is proving to be difficult I cant often get the time I need to study.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The support from the trainer is minimum, I attend a day class once a month and from that I will get set homework to complete before the next session. my assessor is available on the phone or email however I have only had 3 face to face visits for no more than an hour. This does not quite match my learning style and I have found it quite difficult to progress on my own.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • There are areas where I am able to put to practice some of the skills and knowledge I have learnt from my course. I feel like I am still developing as I go and my confidence is growing in turn. The course materials are very closely match to my role so this makes it perfect in progressing in my role.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • To my knowledge there are not any extra-curricular activities to get involved with at my place of work. from a professional networking stance there are certain events (business awards & promotion events) held through out the year but I do not get invited to these they are more for higher level or technically specific employees.

  • 9a. Would you recommend telent to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Yes I would recommend the company I work for to a friend. I feel like they are quite good at developing people, although this massively depends on the line manager you work for. I was lucky with my line manager who happened to be very supportive of my progression and goals.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to telent?
  • I would advise them to negotiate a salary they can live with for a while as pay rises are incredibly hard to come by. I would also suggest they have a clear idea of the role they wish to peruse and ensure they are willing to develop your skills in order to achieve you desired achievements.
