Trainee Nursing associate Review

I am currently training to become a Nursing Associate the role entails carrying out over 95 percent of the duties of a Resister Nurse therefore I will be learning the role of a R/N within the two year problem learning both the theory and practice of the role of a R/N.

I have learnt some duties of the Register NURSE for example I have learnt how to carry out a assessments and complete charts such as Risk assessments and bowel charts.

I enjoy learning the theory of Nursing and discovering the Science in relation to how the body functions including the Anatomy and Physiology of the body.

The program is poorly organized the University regularly changes course material on a regular basis including our PAD documents which did not originally follow the standards of the NMC , we do not have a regular lecture theatre and on a few occasions our lectures have been canceled due to the University having no lecture theatre for us to have our lecture. The course material is very compressed and feels very rushed and most people feel that we de not get enough time to learn the theory in relation to Nursing. The practical part of the course is delivered by the employer where we are met to learning by shadowing Nursing staff and other colleagues of the Multi discipline team however due to staff shortages we are often expected to carry out the role a Health Care Assistant and this makes it very difficult to learn my skills due the nature of the job of a HCA and Nurse which is very demanding. I believe this could be alleviated by allocating us with study days where we are not given any HCA duties and instead allocated tailored training in regards to learning the skills required for the job role of a Nurse. I believe it will only be possible to have good trained staff in the future if dedicated time is allocated to the trainee is given for them to lean the skills required for the job.

The employer has given us one a week 7.5 out of 37.5 hours to learn the theory of Nursing. We do not get allocated time at work to solely focus on learning practical knowledge of the role of a Nurse associate.

I feel that managers and staff lack understanding of our role due to the fact that it is new role within the NHS. I do not receive much support from the employer.

I believe within the two years of the program I will learn the basic skills in order for me to carryout the role of Nursing associate. I believe this will enhance my role from a HCA to a Nursing associate.

I believe the University offers extra-curricular activities such as sporting, extra learning courses in English and Maths and the employer offers a range of short training days.

I believe the program offers a way to train to become Nurse while earning a wage.

I believe the person we need to be very prepared and dedicated to study for the Nursing apprenticeship and will need to spend there own time to learn and research the main theory around Nurse.
