  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role is to assist and shadow engineers in the company, this shadowing is to gradually learn and develop skills to then begin being able to do the job myself when trained. This consists of many jobs such as dismantling and overhauling equipment, repairing equipment, general maintenance and my job is as a multiskilling course as I am training to be electrically and mechanically trained as well as being trained to do instrumentation.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt many skills during my apprenticeship so far. This includes things that my work is based around such as how equipment works, how it is put together and how it operates when being used. I have also learnt things such as computer systems like excel and Computer Aided Design (CAD).

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my apprenticeship a lot because it has showed me a whole new way to improve and develop my skills, this means that I can improve my qualifications while also getting experience and the training required to know what I'm doing in my job role. The training and shadowing is really well done as I get to train on 3 areas of my job as well as 3 different buildings with different types of equipment in.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My apprenticeship is very well structured balancing many different types of work and many different types of equipment meaning I get a varied view of my job. The structure is really good for the balance of college with work, this means I go to college 1 time a week and the rest is hands on work at Pfizer which in my opinion is a good variation of work.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a large amount of support from my employer. This is with things such as having time for my college work when I need it, time to develop my own training on things I'm interested in and help with me going on training and courses I would like to do.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive a lot of support towards my qualification by my training provider. I receive a lot of guidance and help with all my assignments, extra work I'm interested in as well as all questions or help I need about anything. I also receive a lot of meetings about my NVQ that are at my place of work making it easy to complete all my work.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel like the qualification I am working towards helps me preform better as it gives me more information about what my job is and how my job works as well as types of equipment and what the equipment does. This helps with the broader image of the job and then working in the company and shadowing is what gives the more detailed part of the job.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are many extra-curricular opportunities that we have the option to do such as STEM work where we will go out to schools and present anything science, technology, engineering and maths to get more younger children into the idea of STEM based jobs. We also get the option to do courses such as an outwards bounds course with all the apprentices.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Pfizer to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend Pfizer's jobs and apprenticeships to a friend so that they can experience how good and helpful the company is towards qualifications, work and overall employees wellbeing. I would also do this to show how apprenticeships can be a more viable option than going through the struggle of coming from college or university and being unable to find a job due to lack of experience.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Pfizer?
  • I would advise anyone applying for an apprenticeship at Pfizer to first make sure that the position you are applying for is the job you want to do. I also advise getting involved in a bunch of the STEM activities and external activities as well as doing your volunteering days.
