  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I install and connect fibre to new build sites and build the fibre network. I go to new build sites and connect the fibre from the street to each property and ensure that the connection is working a properly and ready for the customers to move into the house. I also work in the exchanges connecting the fibre to the outside network.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • This was a complete job role change for me so I have learnt a lot of new skills from setting up road works and guarding to climbing telephone poles. I have also learnt how the fibre network works and how to install and joint fibre to be able to build the network and get customers connected.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have really enjoyed the training programme that I am on, I have meet and worked with lots of new people who have been very helpful on assisting me with putting the classroom learning into practice in the field. All the classroom training has been very well taught and the instructors have had a very good knowledge base.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme has been very well organised and structured where I have known exactly where the training is going to be based well in advance of the training and I am informed exactly what I need for each part of training so I am full prepared for what I have to do.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I have had a very good network of support from my employer with dedicated training managers and coaches who I can contact with any issues that I have at any time and they come out a visit me whist I am training in the field to discuss what I am learning and how I am getting on.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive full support from my coaches and training provider whist I have been working towards my qualifications they are always available on the phone and via email if I have any questions and issues and we have regular meeting to discuss the work required to complete the qualification and give feedback on how I am progressing.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel the qualification helps me a lot to understand how the company works and what is involved in the role that I am working in enabling me to complete the job in a safe and secure manner and to be able to complete the jobs allocated to my full potential.

  • I have not been informed of any extra-curricular activities that I can get involved in

  • I really enjoy my role and would recommend BT as an employer as I feel they are a good company to work for.

  • The role is quite customer based so illustrate how good you are at communication and customer service.
