I interact daily with members of my department as well as those in the wider company. Mostly every day I will be carrying out experiments in the lab to develop and understand a chemical process I have been given. I am responsible for a particular pharmaceutical compound within my department and it is my responsibility to carry out these relevant experiments as well as obtain suitable analytical data.
I have massively developed my communication and team working skills, as well as my ability to create written reports. My practical laboratory skills have significantly advanced since the beginning of my apprenticeship, alongside my knowledge of the specific area which I work in and how the company works as a whole.
Enrolling in my apprenticeship was the best possible choice I could have made for higher education. I enjoy coming to work everyday and the people that I work with are very supportive of the apprenticeship scheme. I feel it is very beneficial to have the opportunity to truly apply the knowledge you acquire at university as it has definitely aided my understanding of many topics.
My programme is well structured and organised. I have regular meetings with my supervisor, training provider and university representative to ensure I am on track and that my needs are being met. My studying and training are well organised by my employer and university and I have never had any issues.
Within my department at work, everyone is very supportive of apprentices and what we do. My manager specifically is very committed to making the apprenticeship as beneficial and enjoyable for me as possible. If I ever need support I am always able to talk to someone around me, including other apprentices within the company.
My training provider is very supportive of my training and learning working towards my degree. The point of contact at my training provider is always very responsive to communication and more than happy to help. Any issues I have had with my training and learning providers have been resolved well.
My qualification enables me to have a wider understanding of chemistry as a whole, rather than the specific information and techniques required in my role. I am, however, able to apply a large amount of the learning to my workplace as I work with a variety of people and this has enabled me to have a better understanding of their roles and the tasks which may be associated with them.
The apprentice community at Pfizer is a large group of people who are always willing to help each other. We often do various social and sporting activities outside of work and will mingle with other younger colleagues such as those on placement years at Pfizer. All Pfizer employees also have the opportunity to volunteer at STEM events and careers fairs in the local area, to help promote science and careers in the field to young people.
Yes
Pfizer is a very welcoming company with excellent care for its employees. I am surrounded by experienced, highly talented people in my field who are always willing to help. I could not be in a better environment to feed my learning and am very grateful to have had the opportunity to work with those that I have.
Working at Pfizer is about making a difference and being committed to continuously learning, both from your experience and from those around you. Show a willingness to learn and grow, as well as a keenness to get involved with changing the future for the better, both your own and that of patients.
