  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Day to day I attend different meeting on different projects and pick up work to do from them. I may be required to produce an impact assessment for a project and then reach out for sign off. I help other implementation managers with their work as well to ensure I can see a full overview of the things that are required for my role.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Since starting on this degree apprenticeship at Barclays, I feel as though I have learnt many new skills, how to open and run a meeting face to face or online, write documents with the expected terminology and to the required standard as well as working on my team working abilities and confidence to present in front of a group of people.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have really enjoyed my time at Barclays so far and can see no way of this changing in the future. The sense of community offered around the site is like nothing I have experienced before and the togetherness is great. The dynamic and flexible work space offers opportunities to develop at a rapid rate.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The apprenticeship programme is structured really well, with the inclusion of the off the job training (20%) the structure really does ensure you have enough time to complete your university work whilst maintaining a good profile in the work space and completing any activities at work at the right time and to the expected quality.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Barclays offers many different support streams and they make them very easy to identify and make good use of them. Whether this is your line manager offering support, a team buddy you are designated upon your start to the bank, the apprentice buddy that offers more informal support from somebody who has been in your position, or HR and other online resources.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The university offers a great amount of support, you can email your tutors directly at any time in the day and expect a reply within 24 hours, meaning you can arrange a 121 meet up to discuss and go over some content or whatever it is that is on your mind. As can you contact or visit the various student hubs on site.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Personally, I feel as though the amount of which my university work impacts my work activities is rather minimal. The two do not yet interlink with each other yet, whilst I anticipate this to change and more relevant work to be offered, as of now the connections are limited and in work I do not complete any web development, coding or revise business systems.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are extra curricular activities that you are able to get involved in however, the extent to which these are made known is limited. You can get your self involved in many sporting activities, like 5 a side football or tennis. There are also opportunities to get involved in more technological events like the hackathon.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Barclays to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Barclays is a great place to work, there is an incredible amount of support streams available to you as well as numerous benefits and rewards that are available as a Barclays employee that are made very accessible to you. In the same way, the dynamic working environment offers flexibility around your working hours.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Barclays?
  • Be open and honest with Barclays, they are not always after the most academic person when looking for a new recruit for a role, they are more interested in you as a person and your personal qualities. Be kind, be confident and be true to yourself when applying to give yourself the best chance at being successful with your application.
