  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive plenty of support in my day to day job and also with my apprenticeship. While working in the field I have the ability to phone any other engineer in my team and have tools to see who is close by. I can also phone my patch leads and manager to ask any more complicated or more advanced procedures. With my SVQ we have a few different assessors who we can email and text when we need help, we also have a system in place that allows up to text a number which will forward the question to all assessors allowing them to respond to us.

  • We receive plenty of support from the SVQ team, we get workshops every 3 weeks and we are able to email/sms them whenever we want and they will respond when they can. There is also a system set in place that allows us to text our duty of care number with keywords to allow us to contact all the assessors, whoever sees it will respond

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel like the qualification broadens the knowledge of the job as well as helps you to understand why we do things rather than just being told that’s the way it’s meant to be done. I have learned a lot of things in apprenticeship days that otherwise I may have never known. It helps that a lot of the assessors are actually ex field engineers who have a vast knowledge of the job already

  • BT is a great company to work for. The support network is amazing as well as all of the benefits. They are a well respected company and look after you quite well. You get things such as discounted broadband but also access to things such as the employee assistance program which can help you with any mental challenges you may be facing in your life

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BT?
  • I think if you are applying for a job you need to just be yourself. It can be daunting applying and joining a new job but all the staff make you feel like your at home. You can always get help to do things better and there are various support networks you can use if you are struggling
