  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • my role is as a cal engineer is to repair faults for customers and also provide new services such as fibre broadband

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • yes ive learnt a lot in the last 12 months such as all about our network how it works and all the different methods of how to do things such as climbing up a pole. I have learnt also how to test lines and how to install fibre in the pcps

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I wouldn't say I enjoyed it but most days are different regarding the nvq I thought it could have been made more easier as im not gret with word or excel and thought it was a little awkward to navigate but regarding my role I feel more at ease than when I first started

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I wouldn't say it is well structured I thought it was a little al over the place as one week we didn't really know how to complete a item and I thought it could be more organised as we was left to our devices really

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I would say support wasn't good to start with it was a main reason I went off ill but as time as gone on it has improved a little but only from me telling them I need the support I do think it could be better as a new starter we struggle and felt like it was sink or swimm

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I would say its been better these past few months but it could always be better I would have thought it would have been more organised like going through a module each session instead of doing it ourselves but it has got better and the nvq assessor is helpful and does help us alot

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel like it will give me knowledge I didn't have and also we get a pay rise at the end of nvq which is insentive to complete but not only that it gives you a sense of achievement that you are now qualified to do the role you came to do

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • nio there are none of these we have a team meeting once a blue moon but not really and just at Christmas we went out for a meal as a team which does help as it builds team spirit and helps you get to know your team which always helps

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • because it is a well paid job that you can gain a qualification in and you get to learn new skills. Every day is different and if you put the effort in you can go far or if you want to do a new role you always apply for different roles


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BT?
  • always be prepared before you apply read all the company history and also the plans for the future do you research first and make sure its right for you. If you get a job it will be hard to start with but does get better and just go with the flow and don't be scared to share your ideas
