  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Assisting the Head of Marketing with general marketing tasks. I am the sole manager of our social media profiles and SEO presence. I also am the videographer for our business so I often travel and film with clients and colleagues and also edit the videos. I create campaign ideas for our organisation, and execute them throughout the year on relevant events/occasions.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I've learnt new skills in SEO and Google Analytics, as well as receiving full on the job videography training. I've developed skills in presentation and workplace communications, and how to hone and maintain a corporate tone of voice online. I've also put to practice multiple email marketing campaigns and internal communications. My confidence has grown enormously thanks to the support and advice from my colleagues.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I love my job and my workplace, I feel like I learn a lot there both directly, through training and mentoring, and indirectly, through just observing my professional colleagues. The university programme so far is decent, but I feel like I haven't learnt many new things as of yet, excluding the unit on User Experience - this may be due to the fact that the first year is a bit like a foundation year so we are just covering the basics? But our tutors are knowledgeable and very approachable.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I sometimes feel like the university units overlap and we are at university learning a new unit when we are still trying to meet the deadline of the previous unit. This sometimes creates a bit of stress amongst the apprentices as we feel like time is not being spent appropriately.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive lots of support from Reason, they are always on hand to offer me training in the relevant fields. They aim to match up my workplace duties with the university unit I'm currently studying. This gives me good working experience to go into the assignments with. They are also great in handing me extra time if I'm ever behind with my university work, nothing is too much of an ask for them.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The interactive QnA sessions are useful however not all apprentices can make the designated times - especially as they are always over lunch. There is a push to make these mandatory but this may result in more stress/worry for the employers/learners having to find the time to take part for an hour each time.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I've learnt most things that help me excel in my role through my workplace, whether directly or indirectly. This was why I joined the programme, I feel the best experience and knowledge is gained in a real organisational/agency environment. The university has provided me some knowledge on user experience that I didn't previously know and it was great to hear that from an actual UX professional who has had recent experience with clients.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I've been to a couple of networking events/conferences through my workplace which are great to build up professional interpersonal skills and confidence. We have a very active social group at work, whether it be through after work drinks, show and tells, or the girls football team we are setting up.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Reason Digital to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It's a great supportive environment, very progressive in its views and practices. If you're interested in a career in anything digital or technology, this place is full of forward thinking methodologies and teams. I've made some really good friends here and I've not actually even been here that long.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Reason Digital?
  • No two days will be the same, it's fast paced and often a lot of work will come in at the same time after a quiet couple of weeks. Once you get used to managing this, it becomes less overwhelming, but the first few months may take you a while to get on top of. Otherwise this is a great office to grow in, your development is paid for and taken into account at every stage of your career.
