  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Helping clients solve complex problems by producing a detailed strategy outline/plan. On a day-to-day basis I will be carrying out desk research, creating deliverables, sitting and sometimes leading team meetings, doing analysis on data and generating insights, interacting with the client and building rapport all whilst balancing my studies.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • During my time I have developed and learnt many skills. My communication and teamworking skills have significantly improved as well as my ability to build a strong rapport. Additionally, there are many training opportunities and LinkedIn learning which allows you to learn about business essentially e.g. how to come up with strategies, excel skills, how to present, how to analyse data etc.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The work is interesting although sometimes it does get repetitive if a project tends to drag on and it can seem as though you are not learning anything new. Balancing work and your apprenticeship can get quite stressful if you do not plan your time well and you can easily fall behind. It can occasionally feel as though you are out of place or do not feel like a valued member of the team due to your inexperience and needing to commit time towards your studies. Overall, the programme is enjoyable but it does have some drawbacks.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is very new, having been introduced only this year so I am part of the first intake. There are still some details to be ironed out and an adequate support system to be put into place. However, there has been progress made over the past few months in providing training and carrying out feedback sessions to tackle problems we face.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • The general attitude towards supporting us has been positive with an increasing focus and attention in improving the Apprenticeship programme. There has been a support system put into place specifically for us and many mentors available to speak to. However, there hasn't been enough visibility and knowledge of the programme known by everyone in the firm leading to some problems.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Due to the distance learning nature of the course, the support is hindered and may seem very little. Working towards my qualifications isn't very engaging as such as there are no lectures to physically attend or any tutorials. Additionally some of the learning material is a bit dry and dull sometimes and not very difficult or thought-provoking.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My qualification occasionally feels somewhat separate from my work due to the simplicity of the content. Due to the rapid moving nature of my job I may do the learning already on the job and then my qualification acts as a refresher and fills in the gaps of my knowledge.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are many extra-curricular activities to do such as joining sports teams, groups within the company, charity events, initiatives etc. You will never run out of socials and there are many networking events for you to get your face known around the office. If interested, you can also start your own events and create societies.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Deloitte to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Fantastic opportunity instead of going to University whilst still being able to get a degree. Able to be get a head start and dive straight into the working world. Good pay and career progression and should not hinder you in the future. Very prestigious company to work for and loads of benefits available.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Deloitte?
  • Prepare yourself with the interview material given to you well ahead of the actual interview. Watch helpful videos on the website and YouTube to find out what to expect during the interview and tips. Research the firm well and what we do. Know what your job will entail and give yourself plenty of time to complete the video interview etc.
