  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Supporting the store manager with day to day running of the store, which is a varied role that has tasks that range from helping with planing what is happening week to week, rotas, training/developing and people management to setting up new promotional plans and seasonal changes. Helping the store to achieve the kpi targets.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Have developed more of my people skills so far from how I approach what I need to convey to suiting my style to the colleague I’m communicating to, also have learnt more maths skills then ever before by completing the maths programme which has help make me feel more confident in working out rotas and stock results quicker and easier.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • It’s a great programme! I enjoy how it’s laid out before me with a time line of my progress, Like that I can contact my trainer and will get a reply swiftly back. Have done something similar before which is a pail comparison compared to this programme. Finding it very engaging!

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It is very structured, that you have a module to complete by end of the month, but also it has layers in the module to help guide you and increase your understanding of the subject. On visits with the trainer you will go through what’s expected for the month and checks to see how your progressing with the module.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer gives me loads of support. They see it as a investment of people for the business. My manager will give me guidance on modules and will allow me to gather evidence and do real-time scenarios. Have had my business manager help me with my development by sending my to other stores if I can’t get what I need in my store.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Loads of support!! There’s is loads of material on their website to help me, from modules and mock exams to real time help from qualified people who specialises in that field. The trainer is available 5 days a week and is so approachable it’s great. They also recommend links to external sites that can give you loads more detail if you require. And the have different sites to help you keep track of all you have done and how far along you are.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Yes already I have noticed a difference in my confidence and I’m only just scratching the surface of the apprenticeship, also have found that I can handle situations in work a lot better due to having been provided the knowledge to be able to find a solution to problems that arise or planning that is required.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are lessons plans that you can attend if you want extra help with any of the subjects that you are studying for also they have a communities on there webpages that you can join if you wish. And interact with other learners and help each other if you like.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Poundland to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • It has competitive salary for colleagues and with this apprenticeship give you actual qualifications that are investment for you as well as the company. They are moving forward at pace in the discount sector. No 2 days are the same with some challenge or task to complete. They also have good staff benefits and are always looking how to reward for a job well done.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Poundland?
  • Do your homework about the company before you go into the interview. Remember the companies values when answering any questions, these are important to the company. Be passionate and up beat in any interview you have with the company and know your cv by heart and be ready to back up and statements with facts.
