  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role at TUI is of a senior leadership level, structured within the Content team of the Sales and Marketing function. The Content team produces all customer-facing creative design, photography, video and editorial, as well as managing the content management system (CMS) which feeds various platforms such as the website. I’ve worked at TUI for 9 years across various roles within this function. I report into the General Manager of Content, and my role title is Content Workflow Manager. The areas I am responsible for include: work traffic management; budget management; project management; brochure production; distribution; employee engagement; technical server support; digital solutions; strategizing new requirements. The main objective focus for my role this year is responsibility for gatekeeping all work requests coming into the creative Content team. This encompasses management by manual records, software system solutions and improvements to stakeholder management, as well as accountability for process implementation, reviews and enhancements. In addition to this, I manage five direct reports, with a total team size of ten. My team support my objectives as the hierarchical structure allows objectives to be cascaded. I hold value and prioritise good leadership skills, and enjoy coaching and mentoring my team.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I thoroughly enjoy my programme. I am able to learn while gaining invaluable experience working in the travel industry. I find that the balance between academic theory and practical application interesting and effective. The business provide sponsors to attend our apprentice learning week sessions which are incredibly useful and engaging, and offer an opportunity to build relationships with senior colleagues.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Very well structured overall. My cohort is the first to undertake a degree apprenticeship with the University of Hertfordshire, and so there will always be some kinks to iron out. But we are given plenty of support and guidance, as much if not more than traditional university students. The business and university work well together with a dedicated colleague to coordinate between the two.

  • My qualification gives me the opportunity to perform infinitely better in my role. By learning about and understanding other business areas, as well as hearing from directors of departments and functions around the business, my business knowledge has expanded and helped me to become involved in projects and topics which previously I would have had no initial knowledge about.
