  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role is Private Office Support for BT & Corporate Services. I am a Human Resources data analyst and on a day to day basis I respond to the needs of the business by providing and analysing sickness absence data, temporary promotion, diversity, mandatory learning, age profiles etc. I have recently been doing a lot of work around the People Survey for the business areas I cover.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy being an apprentice on the scheme but my company culture and team I dont enjoy so much. My work can be interesting at times but at other times It can be boring and I feel the need to be more scretched with the nature of the work given.

  • Not very, my Manager is not appreciative of the work I do and doesnt make me feel valued for the work I do within the team.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The apprenticeship induction was well organised to an extent but did not allow enough time for networking. The induction should have lasted for 2 or 3 days for it to be more structured like the fast streamers who went away for 2 or 3 days. I have just attended my first training session which was very structured and beneficial. The mentor system I use frequently is very good but the assessors and support is not as organised.

  • No

  • 9. Would you recommend Civil Service to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Wide range of career opportunities.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Civil Service?
  • For the assessment centre make sure you have examples of skills/ voluntary activities you have done to meet the competencies in the application process as that will give you good standing in the process. I would have liked to have been told that you would not have any control over which department you would end up in.
