  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work across a number of teams and have moved between the many IT support teams. I am currently working on the deployment of windows 10 and Office365. I have a diverse role and the council allows me to work on my university workload whilst at work.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed skills in networks, soloution development and maintenance, service management, sql and people skills. The main skill I have developed is confidence within the workplace which has allowed me to excel within my role and secure the confidence of my managers.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The university aspect is both enjoyable and painful. I personally dislike formal teaching and academic writing however MMU provide help and guidance and allow work to be aligned with tasks being completed within the workplace. Also the facilities are wonderful.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • As we are the third cohort of degree apprentices, MMU has developed structure and ensured that university teaching is delivered in a logical and organised way. I can see what work I have coming up to allow me to plan alongside work. I am happy with the structure provided.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Compared to other employers, both my manager and the organisation are very available to provide support and give time if deemed necessary. I also have bi-weekly meetings to discuss my progress and identify and needs for training or support.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • MMU are an established educational institution. They have highly qualified tutors who are available to support you within your sessions and give dedicated time where they are available outside of these sessions. I have personally seen my work improve due to the help received from MMU.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Personally, I am not fully matched with my role completely, however developing my skills around learning and my professional and interpersonal skills has helped me communicate ideas within senior employees. It will help towards my further career and a degree always helps out with the salary as well.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There is if you would like to. I personally don't live in Manchester so do not partake however I complete extra-curricular activities with fellow apprentices within the council and would take on something from the university if I wanted to.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Cheshire East Council to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • It pays acceptably, there is a lot of support available should you need it and there is the possibility to learn about a number of areas of a business and the different IT systems it uses.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Cheshire East Council?
  • Be yourself, be passionate and research into the current values of the council. This is something that interviewers within the council really look for. Also dress fancy, nothing a smart outfit can't win over.
