  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • A bit of everything really, from developing new systems and managing projects to running reports and creating database queries. I've also received training on key business procedures such as running an ILR. I work with both web and desktop technologies so when developing a new system or maintaining an old one it could be either!

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Not a great deal from what I already knew, no. There have been instances of putting skills I already had into a new context but this hasn't been too challenging - for example, SQL queries here are simpler than those I am used to writing but they need carrying out over multiple servers (new context).

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the programme at work, I feel I am given a great deal of work to do that is at a sufficient level to challenge me but not be too difficult. The wide scope of my job role helps with this. The Uni side is the exact opposite, none of the material has been particularly challenging so I have found it boring and am loathe to go to training on some days

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Not a great deal. We are supposed to receive an amount of time whilst at work to continue our studies, however due to the workload placed on myself and the rest of the team I am rarely given this time
