  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • As a supervisor part of my job role is to do everything a sales assistant would do. Stock replenishment, till duties, drop and fill and store tidy. As a supervisor my responsibilities include staff management, store comms, cash office duties, delegating jobs, shift cover and general running of the store when required.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Whilst on my apprenticeship I have learned new things like the customer journey and how each customer us different and there wants needs and expectations. I have learned withings my work how to be more friendly and approachable to the customers and how to resolve issues that meet the customers needs.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I find my apprenticeship hard because my workplace is not a structured place where I can get my apprenticeship work done as well as do the job I am required to to. I have to do the majority of my work at home which doesn't leave me much personal time.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • On my apprenticeship my tutor will send me my work for the time period in a detailed email so j know what needs to be done. If I get really stuck then I know if I email her she will contact me back when she gets chance. My work place doesn't support me within my apprenticeship.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I dont really get any support from my employer, although I though I would when enrolling on the course. My work place has been all over the place since starting the apprenticeship and I haven't had any structure there so it's difficult trying to do my best in both my work and my apprenticeship.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My trainer is really nice and she is really understanding when I talk to her about how much I've struggled trying to do everything. She will support me where needed but I know I still have to do the work on my own it's just really hard trying to juggle everything.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • At the moment in time I'm not too sure how it's going to help me withkng my company as it's not really what I expected. But I know in the future it will help me understand alot in the retail industry and how I can become a better member of management.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are no extra curricular activities at work. When I'm at work I'm at work and when I'm at home I'm catching up with stuff I need to do with my course. Work is not a social activity and I would not socialise with the majority of people I work with.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Poundland to a friend?
  • No

  • 9b. Why?
  • Poundland itself is a good company, but it's a hard company to work for as they expect alot from you and even when you give it your all it still doesn't seem good enough. Not as a member of management anyway. It hard work but I worked too hard to walk away from it all now.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Poundland?
  • I would advice them to just give it your all, take everything with a pinch of salt and just get on with the job. Try and learn everything you can and expect every day to be different than another. Its challenging and can be hard work but sometimes it can be fun.
